A BILL to amend article eight, chapter eighteen of the code of West
Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated section five-b,
relating to calculating, assessing and treating, for the
purposes of this article, repetitive tardiness as absence from
school.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That article eight, chapter eighteen of the code of West
Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be
amended by adding thereto a new section, designated section five-b,
to read as follows:
ARTICLE 8. COMPULSORY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE.
§18-8-5b. Accumulated tardiness constituting absence.
For all purposes in calculating and reporting days absent in
this article, periods of tardiness accumulating to three hundred
forty-five minutes shall each be considered as one day of absence.

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to translate repeated and
lengthy tardiness into days of absence for the purposes of
compelling attendance.
